Guest Speaker: Sam Webb

In term 4, we were able to organise a guest speaker, Sam Webb, to come in during one of our assemblies, and speak to us about mental health in young men, and Livin, the charity he co-founded. We first saw Sam on Australian Survivor, and learnt that he had established his charity after losing a close mate to suicide, and so we thought he would be the perfect person to bring in to talk to the boys.

Speaking to the boys after the assembly, I think they benefited a lot from the talk. Sam was really relatable and his passion for the topic was evident.

After the assembly, we decided it would be good to have him in for a longer period of time, because his speech at assembly only went for a fraction of the time that his usual seminar style talks go for. Sam then came in during term 1 and spoke for an hour to each of the year groups, to supplement what he had spoken to us about during the assembly.

We thought these seminars helped immensely, as Sam was able to go into much more depth than during the assembly. He told some very moving stories, and we hope that all the boys got something out of it.
